About this ticket

  • Climb the Leaning Tower's 251 worn marble steps, feeling the tilt shift underfoot
  • The seven bells at the top, and a view over the Cathedral roof, the Baptistery dome and Pisa's rooftops
  • Pisa Cathedral included, with no fixed time: Giovanni Pisano's pulpit and Cimabue's apse mosaic
  • A reserved Tower time, plus an audio guide on your own phone

What you'll see. The Leaning Tower is the Cathedral's bell tower, about 56 metres tall, begun in 1173 and leaning since its first years as the soft ground settled. Inside, 251 worn marble steps spiral up between the walls, and you feel the slope change as you climb. At the top are the seven bells and a view across the Cathedral roof, the Baptistery dome and Pisa's red roofs.

The Cathedral. Your ticket includes the Cathedral with no fixed time, so you can go in before or after your climb. Look for Giovanni Pisano's carved pulpit (1302–1310), Cimabue's mosaic of St John in the apse and the bronze lamp linked by legend to Galileo. Visitors can enter from 10:00; during Mass and ceremonies, mainly on Sundays and religious holidays, access is limited to part of the church.

How your ticket works. You choose a date and a Tower time when you book. All bags, handbags included, must go in the free cloakroom by the ticket office before the climb, so arrive 15 minutes before your slot. There's a hand-held metal-detector check at the entrance, and slots are strict: late arrivals aren't admitted or refunded. Your audio guide is included and access details are sent with your ticket.

Who can climb. Every climber must be at least 8 years old; younger children and infants, even in a carrier, can't go up, so this ticket has no under-8 price. Under-18s must climb with an adult and carry ID showing their age. The Tower has no reduced tickets, so ages 8–17 pay the same as adults. The climb isn't advised for people with heart or muscle conditions, and the steps are uneven and can be slippery.
