The story
The Real Maestranza de Caballería, a noble riding brotherhood, decided in 1730 to build its own ring. Stone construction began in 1761 to a design by Francisco Sánchez de Aragón; in the 1780s Vicente de San Martín moved the centre of the ring, which gave it its oval plan, and the ring was completed in 1881.
