The story

Abd al-Rahman III ordered a fortress here in 913. After the Castilian conquest of 1248 the kings of Castile rebuilt it, and from 1356 Pedro I raised the Mudéjar palace whose plasterwork and tiles most visitors come to see.

The Alcázar is still a residence of the Spanish royal family. UNESCO listed it in 1987 with the Cathedral and the Archivo de Indias.
