Gaudí's 1904–1906 remake of a house on Passeig de Gràcia, with a blue-tiled light well, a roof shaped like a dragon's back and a 360° room of light and sound.

What you'll see

- 2 lifts, with priority for wheelchair users, people with reduced mobility and pregnant visitors. Wheelchair users can visit every area.

- The house stores pushchairs at the entrance and offers baby carriers for under-2s.

The story
Emilio Sala Cortés, one of Gaudí's teachers, designed this block in 1877. Josep Batlló i Casanovas bought it in 1903 and in 1904 hired Gaudí to remodel it. Rather than knock it down, Gaudí transformed it, and the work was finished in 1906.
The roof is often read through the legend of Saint George, Catalonia's patron saint, who killed a dragon: the scaled tiles are the dragon's back and the cross his sword. The Bernat family, owners since 1990, began restoring the house in 1993 and opened it to visitors in 1996. UNESCO added it to the Works of Antoni Gaudí in 2005.
