Good to know
- Start
- 11:00, 13:00 or 15:30 by the pond in Plaça de Gaudí. Meet your guide 15 minutes before: late arrivals cannot enter.
- Dress code
- Shorts and skirts at least to mid-thigh; no swimwear or see-through clothing. Shoulders covered in the Chapel of the Holy Sacrament.
- Security
- Bags are checked at the entrance. No food or drink, and no large luggage: there are no lockers for suitcases.
- Accessibility
- The whole basilica is step-free; the towers are not part of this tour. Wheelchair users enter by gate B on Carrer de la Marina, so tell us when you book.
- Group size

The story
The first stone was laid on 19 March 1882 to a design by Francisco de Paula del Villar. Antoni Gaudí took over in 1883, began the Nativity façade in 1891 and from 1914 worked on nothing else. When he died in 1926 his disciple Domènec Sugranyes carried on.
Many plans and plaster models were destroyed in 1936, at the start of the Civil War, and work went on from what was saved. Josep Maria Subirachs was commissioned in 1986 to sculpt the Passion façade. UNESCO listed the Nativity façade and the crypt in 2005, and Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the church on 7 November 2010.
On 10 June 2026, 100 years after Gaudí's death, Pope Leo XIV blessed the central Tower of Jesus Christ. At 172.5 metres it makes the Sagrada Família the tallest church in the world.
