What's included. The Giotto Pass is the cathedral works office's pass for four sites: Giotto's Bell Tower, the Baptistery of San Giovanni, the Opera del Duomo Museum and the excavations of Santa Reparata under the cathedral. It does not include the climb up Brunelleschi's dome. The cathedral itself is free to enter.
How it works. You choose a Bell Tower time slot when you book, and that slot is fixed. The other three sites can be visited once each at any time within the pass's 3-day validity. Your audio guide is included and access details are sent with your ticket.
The climb. 414 steps and no lift, with landings at three levels before the open terrace at the top. Since 2026 the tower has been wrapped in restoration scaffolding that will move down it over about four years. It stays open throughout, but some views may be partly screened.
Good to know. The museum, at Piazza del Duomo 9, deserves about 90 minutes. The Baptistery's vault mosaics are hidden by restoration scaffolding for now. Santa Reparata is reached from inside the cathedral and closes at 16:00.

Know before you go
- The Bell Tower has 414 steps, narrow stairs and no lift; not advised for heart conditions, vertigo or claustrophobia.
- Under-18s must climb with an adult. Bring ID for child prices.
- Cover shoulders and knees; no hats, sandals or bare legs in the Baptistery.
- Medium and large bags must be left at the luggage storage at Piazza Duomo 38/r before the climb.
- Bell Tower closed 9–13 November 2026; the museum closes on the first Tuesday of each month.
- The cathedral closes on Sundays and during religious celebrations.
