What's included. Return transport from Florence, a guided walk round Piazza dei Miracoli and a reserved ticket to climb the Leaning Tower, which also gets you into the Cathedral. Children under 8 can't climb (a site rule), so they get Baptistery entry instead. One adult in your party will need to stay with them; tell us at booking and that adult can swap their Tower slot for the Baptistery too.
The climb. Building began in 1173 and the tower started to lean within a few years. Inside, 251 worn marble steps spiral up to the bell chamber and you feel the tilt as you go. Bags aren't allowed on the Tower, so leave them in the cloakroom by the ticket office. Slots are strict; your guide plans the walk so you arrive in good time.
The square. Your guide explains the Cathedral's arcaded Pisan Romanesque façade, the round Baptistery and the Camposanto's long frescoed cloister, and why the ground here gave way. You'll also have free time for the Cathedral and the classic photos on the lawn.
Getting there. The coach leaves from Piazzale Montelungo, by the Fortezza da Basso, about 10 minutes' walk from Santa Maria Novella station. In Pisa, coaches park outside the old walls, a short walk from the square.

Know before you go
- Children under 8 can't climb the Tower, and under-18s must climb with an adult. Bring ID for every child.
- No bags on the Tower; use the cloakroom by the ticket office.

- 251 uneven, sometimes slippery steps; not advised for heart, muscle or mobility conditions.
