Siena. Your guide leads a walk through the medieval streets to Piazza del Campo, the sloping brick square where the Palio is run each 2 July and 16 August, and on to the striped marble cathedral. Free time follows. Cathedral entry isn't included, but its inlaid marble floor is uncovered until 15 November 2026 if you'd like to buy a ticket.
Chianti. Lunch is at a family-run winery in the Chianti hills: a look at the cellar, then a tasting of three wines, including a Chianti Classico, with bruschetta and the estate's olive oil, cured meats, pecorino and a pasta dish. Under-18s get soft drinks or grape juice instead of wine.
San Gimignano. The afternoon is yours in San Gimignano, where 14 of the medieval tower-houses still stand. Walk up to Piazza della Cisterna and the Collegiata, try the local white Vernaccia, or climb the Torre Grossa (ticket extra).
Getting there. The coach leaves at 08:00 from Piazzale Montelungo, by the Fortezza da Basso, 10 minutes' walk from Santa Maria Novella station, and returns there at about 19:00.
