About Las Ventas Bullring

Las Ventas was completed in 1929 and opened on 17 June 1931. Architect José Espeliú designed it in neo-Mudéjar style, in red brick with horseshoe arches and glazed tiles bearing the arms of Spain's provinces. Its 23,798 seats in ten tiers make it the largest bullring in Spain, and it is a protected monument owned by the Community of Madrid.

Bullfighting divides opinion in Spain, and the ring has other lives too: the Beatles played here in 1965, and in 2008 the arena became a clay court for the Davis Cup. Daytime visits cover the stands, the arena floor, the Puerta Grande, the chapel and the infirmary, plus the Bullfighting Museum, opened in 1951, with costumes, posters and paintings.
