About Pinacoteca di Brera
Set on the first floor of the 17th-century Palazzo Brera, the Pinacoteca grew from paintings gathered in Napoleon's time and now fills 38 rooms. A bronze Napoleon, cast from Canova's model, greets you in the arcaded courtyard.
Highlights come thick and fast: Mantegna's foreshortened Dead Christ, Raphael's Marriage of the Virgin, Piero della Francesca's Montefeltro Altarpiece, Caravaggio's Supper at Emmaus and Hayez's The Kiss. A glass-walled restoration lab lets you watch conservators at work.
