What you'll see. Your ticket covers the cathedral, the Duomo Museum and San Gottardo in Corte, the Visconti family's 14th-century court church. Inside the Duomo, 40 pillars divide five aisles beneath towering stained-glass windows. Look down for the brass meridian line laid in 1786 to mark solar noon, and look up for the small red light high above the altar, marking where a relic said to be a nail from the Cross is kept.
The museum. Across the piazza in the Royal Palace, the Duomo Museum shows what weather and time have taken off the building: original marble saints, stained-glass panels and the great wooden model used to plan the cathedral. It is the best place to see the sculpture up close, rather than 50 metres above your head.
Up on the roof (optional). Add the terraces and you climb among the spires and flying buttresses to the main roof, with the gilded Madonnina on her spire above you and, on clear days, the Alps on the horizon. Some steps are unavoidable even with lift access, and there are no toilets up there.
Your audio guide. Audio guide included: access details are sent with your ticket, so you can listen on your own phone and move at your own pace. Bring headphones and a charged phone. On Wednesdays the museum and San Gottardo are closed, so your visit covers the cathedral only.

Know before you go
- Cover shoulders and knees; staff can refuse entry in shorts, sleeveless tops or short skirts.
- Expect a security check: empty pockets of metal items and open bags. Dogs, glass and drones are not allowed.
- The Duomo Museum and San Gottardo close on Wednesdays; on Wednesdays you visit the cathedral only.
- Tourist access can be restricted during Mass and religious celebrations.
- Bring ID for each child (4–17) in case it's checked at the entrance.
- With the terraces option: there are no toilets on the roof, and some stairs are unavoidable.
