About this ticket
- Stand before the Rondanini Pietà, which Michelangelo was still carving days before he died in 1564
- Find Mantegna's Trivulzio Madonna among the Renaissance paintings of the castle Pinacoteca
- Explore Egyptian finds, armour, furniture and historic musical instruments on one ticket
- Cross the vast brick courtyards beneath the Filarete Tower, rebuilt in the early 1900s
What you'll see. One ticket opens the castle's civic museums for the day. Start with the Rondanini Pietà, shown on its own in the former Spanish Hospital: two thin, almost fused figures that Michelangelo kept reworking into his late eighties. Then move through the Museum of Ancient Art, the Pinacoteca with Mantegna, Bellini and Correggio, and rooms of furniture, decorative arts and musical instruments.
The castle itself. Francesco Sforza began rebuilding a Visconti fortress here in 1450, and his successors turned it into a Renaissance court where Leonardo da Vinci worked. The red-brick walls, dry moats and courtyards are free to wander, and the Filarete Tower over the main gate looks straight down Via Dante towards the city centre.
Leonardo's ceiling. The Sala delle Asse, where Leonardo painted a pergola of intertwined trees across the vault, is in the final phase of a long restoration. It opened briefly for the 2026 Winter Olympics and may not be on view during your visit.
Your audio guide. Audio guide included: access details are sent with your ticket. The museums spread across several wings, so the guide helps you plan a route, linger where you like and skip what doesn't interest you.
