- Palace April–October 9:00–18:30 (last admission 17:45), November–March 9:00–17:30 (last admission 16:45). Closed Mondays, 1 January, 1 May and 25 December.
- Getting in
- Go straight to Entrance A in the main courtyard at your palace time, with your ticket and ID. Allow 15 minutes for the security check.
- Trianon
- The Trianon estate opens at 12:00, or earlier during some exhibitions.
- Bags
- No suitcases or large bags, and the left-luggage service is suspended. Free lockers in the South Ministers' Wing take items up to 46 x 43 x 26 cm.
- Ages
- Under-18s enter the palace and Trianon free: the child price covers our audio guide and the reserved slot. Under-4s go free.
The story
Louis XIII built a small château here in 1624. His son Louis XIV enlarged it, first with Louis Le Vau after 1661 and then with Jules Hardouin-Mansart after 1678, and on 6 May 1682 made Versailles the seat of the court and government. The Hall of Mirrors went up between 1678 and 1684.
Louis XV had Ange-Jacques Gabriel build the Petit Trianon, finished in 1768, and Louis XVI gave it to Marie-Antoinette in 1774. The royal family left for Paris on 6 October 1789. Louis-Philippe opened his historic galleries here in 1837, and the Treaty of Versailles was signed in the Hall of Mirrors on 28 June 1919. UNESCO listed the palace and park in 1979.
