Good to know
- Start
- 9:30, 13:30 or 17:00 at the corner of Avenue Gustave Eiffel and Avenue de Suffren. Meet your guide 15 minutes before.
- Security
- Security check at the entrance to the tower's grounds; allow 10–20 minutes. Large luggage is not allowed and there is no left-luggage service.
- Summit
- The summit can close in bad weather or at peak times. The top and the stairs are not accessible to people with reduced mobility.
- Getting there
- Bir-Hakeim metro (line 6), Trocadéro (line 9) or École Militaire (line 8). RER C stops at Champ de Mars–Tour Eiffel.
- Group size
- Small group, 15 travellers at most. Minimum 2 travellers per booking.
The story
The tower was built for the 1889 World's Fair, which marked 100 years since the French Revolution. Work began on 26 January 1887 and ended on 31 March 1889, after two years, two months and five days, with 18,038 iron parts and 2,500,000 rivets.
At the top, Gustave Eiffel's office has been restored to its original state, with wax figures of Eiffel and his daughter Claire welcoming the American inventor Thomas Edison. Every evening after dusk the tower sparkles for 5 minutes at the start of each hour.
