About Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba

The Mosque-Cathedral grew over two centuries into one of the largest mosques of its time, a hall of columns carrying double arches of red brick and white stone. After the Christian conquest of Córdoba in 1236 it became the city's cathedral, and in the 16th century a Renaissance cathedral was built in the middle of the prayer hall.

UNESCO listed the mosque in 1984 and extended the listing in 1994 to Córdoba's historic centre, including the Alcázar and the Roman bridge. Nearby, the Jewish Quarter keeps a synagogue built in 1314–1315, the only medieval synagogue left in Andalusia.
