About Park Güell

Park Güell began in 1900 as a private garden city for wealthy families. Only two houses were built, and the estate opened as a public park in 1926. The ticketed Monumental Zone holds the parts most people come for.

Climb the Dragon Stairway past the tiled salamander, step under the Hypostyle Room's columns, then walk out onto the main square, edged by a long bench clad in broken-tile mosaic. Stone viaducts lean like tree trunks along the paths, and the two gatehouses by the main gate wear roofs like iced mushrooms.

Know before you go

  • Entry is timed: arrive within your 30-minute window
  • No re-entry once you leave the Monumental Zone
  • Steep slopes, steps and gravel paths: wear flat shoes
  • Drainage and lighting works (2026–27) close some paths; follow the signed routes
  • Little shade on the terrace; bring water and a hat in summer
