About Sagrada Família

Gaudí took over the project in 1883 and gave it the rest of his life, spending his final months living on site. He died in June 1926 and is buried in the crypt. A century later, on 10 June 2026, the central Tower of Jesus Christ was blessed, making this the tallest church in the world at 172.5 metres.

Inside, branching columns hold up the vaults like a stone forest, and the stained glass washes the nave in blues and greens on the east side and reds and oranges on the west. Outside, compare Gaudí's richly carved Nativity façade with the stark, angular Passion façade by Josep Maria Subirachs.
