About Duomo di Milano

Work on Milan's cathedral began in 1386, and the last details were finished only in 1965. The result is a Gothic giant faced in pale pink Candoglia marble, with five aisles, 40 pillars and some 135 spires.

Inside, look for Marco d'Agrate's unsettling Saint Bartholomew Flayed and the brass meridian line set into the floor in 1786. The Duomo Museum in the Royal Palace keeps original statues and stained glass removed from the building, while the rooftop terraces put you among the pinnacles, close to the gilded Madonnina.
