The Real Maestranza de Caballería, a noble riding brotherhood, decided in 1730 to build its own ring. Stone construction began in 1761 to a design by Francisco Sánchez de Aragón; in the 1780s Vicente de San Martín moved the centre of the ring, which gave it its oval plan, and it was completed in 1881 with 30 unequal sides.
The visit takes you onto the sand of the ring and into the stands, the Patio de Caballos and the bullfighters' chapel, then through the Sala de Pinturas and the Sala de Estampas, with art from Goya to Jean Cocteau, and a final room of costumes, capes and posters.
