About Eiffel Tower

Built in two years for the 1889 World's Fair and meant to last twenty, the tower is now 330 metres tall with its antennas. Lifts climb the slanting legs to the second floor, at 115 metres, where the city spreads out at street-map scale.

A second lift continues to the summit at 276 metres. There you'll find Gustave Eiffel's restored office, with wax figures of Eiffel and Thomas Edison. After dark the tower sparkles for five minutes on the hour.

Know before you go

  • Airport-style security to enter the forecourt, then again at the pillar.
  • Large luggage is not allowed and there is no left-luggage service.
  • The summit can close at short notice for wind or crowding.
  • From the second floor up it's lifts only; the stairs stop there.
