About Tuileries Garden
Catherine de' Medici created a garden here in the 1560s beside her new Tuileries Palace, which burned in 1871. From 1664 André Le Nôtre gave it the straight avenues and formal lines it keeps today.
Pull up one of the green metal chairs by the octagonal pond, look for sculptures by Maillol, Rodin and Giacometti, and follow the central path towards Concorde. The Musée de l'Orangerie and the Jeu de Paume stand at the western end.
Know before you go
- Entry is free and there are gates on rue de Rivoli, at Concorde and at the Carrousel.
- Paths are gravel, which can be dusty in summer.
- Toilets and kiosk cafés are inside the garden.
