About St Paul's Cathedral

After the Great Fire of 1666 destroyed the medieval cathedral, Sir Christopher Wren spent 35 years building its replacement, completed in 1710. Its dome still dominates protected views across London.

Inside, Victorian mosaics glitter above the quire, and Holman Hunt's The Light of the World hangs in the south aisle. In the crypt lie Nelson, Wellington and Wren himself, under the Latin line 'Reader, if you seek his monument, look around you.' Climb 257 steps to the Whispering Gallery, or keep going to the Stone and Golden Galleries.
